CFOs for Deep Tech
Deep Tech Leaders gets asked to recruit two types of Finance leaders. The background of the first type often includes a blend of finance / accounting and science in their early background, with accounting and finance roles in technology and engineering companies. There tends to be a blend of corporate and start-up experience, and strengths in putting in place rigorous financial systems and control, management reporting and a strong contribution to financing and commercial models.
The second type of profile often starts life in investment banking, with outstanding experience of capital raising, including equity, debt, private and public placements. These individuals tend not to be accountants and lack experience in financial control and operations. They excel, however, when it comes to managing the investment process, identifying prospective investors, working with advisors, and building the story. They can also excel in terms of commercial modelling and deal negotiation.
Below are examples of CFOs we’ve placed. Visit the Opportunities page to explore our available Deep Technology leadership roles.
Jonathan Cumming - CFO/COO Nu Quantum
Nu Quantum is building quantum networking technology to enable distributed quantum computing at scale. Jonathan has assumed the dual role of CFO and COO to lead financial strategy, capital raising, and operational excellence for this Deep Tech pioneer. His background combines investment banking expertise from Barclays with extensive CFO experience across scale-ups and growth-stage technology companies, including Carbon13 and Cambridge Spark, making him ideally positioned to drive Nu Quantum’s commercial expansion.
Rob Marrow - CFO, Econic
Econic Technologies replaces fossil fuel-based ingredients within polyols and surfactants with waste CO2. The company’s brilliant solution required an equally brilliant financial operation, fundraising strategy and commercial proposition, all of which Rob has taken responsibility for since joining as CFO. His background in leading finance teams within major industrial companies like Shell and Prax, in addition to his start-up experience, made him a strong choice for this challenge.
